Sometimes, it's ok to take a break from the learning and just enjoy yourself. This video is great for that kind of time!

Elmo's World - Dancing Music Books (1999) Review

(More customer reviews)Our two-year old loves all things Elmo but this DVD stands out among all of the others.
It contains three episodes of "Elmo's World". Each episode follows a similar flow of events while covering different topics: dancing, books and music. Each episode contains
* funny skits (Our son always laughs at the misadventures of Mr. Noodle. In case you have a preference, all three episodes on this DVD have the "original" Mr. Noodle played by Bill Irwin rather than the newer one played by the late Michael Jeter)
* songs and counting exercises that encourage active participation (he mimics the hokey pokey and points to the counting objects as they appear on the screen)
* instructional live-action video clips. For example, the "Reading" episode has a clip on the basics of how the library works and encourages kids to have their parents take them there. This will obviously be lost on younger toddlers, but shows how the content will be interesting to a wide variety of ages.
The episode format is great for younger toddlers because they can key in on what type of skit or song is upcoming after only a few viewings. Other Elmo DVDs (i.e. "The Best of Elmo") don't follow this pattern, and so he's not as interested in them at this young age; those DVDs function more as sing-alongs for older toddlers.
I disagree with some of the other negative reviews based on the disc's inability to hold a toddler's complete attention for the whole hour. First off, I doubt that there's anything in the world that could hold a two-year old's complete attention for more than ten minutes. Second, I believe that programs like this one are most beneficial when your child enjoys its content interactively along with others. We love watching this DVD along with him and he loves showing off how he can dance along with it and point out and name specific objects.
Another criticism that I've seen stems from the commercials that are at the very beginning of the main program. You can skip past these trailers for other Sesame Street DVDs just by advancing to the next chapter. One button - not hard at all.
In summary, this DVD has great educational content for kids within a wide range of ages and it's very entertaining as well.

(More customer reviews)This is THE video to get for your little elmo fanatic! My 22 month old son can't seem to get enough of Sesame Street, especially Elmo. I bought this video to quench his never ending thirst for more Elmo and hit PAYDIRT!
This is isn't necessarily an educational video but it is tons of fun! The songs are great and Elmo is prominent throughout. It was even fun enough that I happily watch it with him (I usually take advantage of 'video time' to get chores done).
If your going to let your children watch t.v., Sesame Street is the wat to go. Normally don't advocate t.v. watching for children, but there is something special about Sesame Street that I make an exception for. My son has learned to count to ten, alot of the alphabet, and other miscellaneous things through a combination of myself and Sesame Street. For example, He recognizes letters and numbers when they come up on a video. When used as a supplement by parents (not a substitute), I think Sesame Street can be a useful (& fun) learning tool!

Sesame Street - Mother Goose (1997) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this video for my granddaughter, who is just over 2. She loves it and so do I! One poor dog, Simon, does not know how to rhyme and his mother(Mother Goose's daughter) is trying to help him by going over Mother Goose rhymes. It is clever and very funny for the adults. The children are listening to rhymes that I think all children should be exposed to and enjoying the dogs because they are so funny. Much better to watch with a child than those cartoon videos. My granddaughter always asks me to play the dogs.

Sesame Street: Elmo and the Bookaneers (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)I thought this would be a great DVD with pirates and singing, but it's a lot of on screen reading and my 3 year old gets bored. Tina Fey is entertaining, but kids don't see her as anyone different from the rest of the adults on the movie. The clay pirate short is cute, but for the first 15 minutes, the movie is mostly talking which doesn't capture my child's interest. The giant squid is a cartoon and is only on for a minute or so. I would think this would be better for 5 year olds.

(More customer reviews)This video is by far my daughter's favorite Elmo video...I am not sure why - but the birthday segment really taught her how to blow out the candles on her birthday cake and the segment with Mr. Noodle wrapping a present had her wrapping everything in sight .."Tape, Mama, TAPE!"...she also learned how to play Simon Says from this video and Tag.....she loves the part where the kids play.....
I think it is a good video as any from the Elmo series....

(More customer reviews)Grover is at his best in this hysterical video. With his typical humor, he teaches us how to eat more wisely. There are alot of great inside jokes for the parents, too. The "Planet Storybook" restaurant he works on is a funny spoof of "Planet Hollywood", complete with memorabelia (from stories, of course).
My 2 1/2 year old loves this video, and has learned alot from it. I bought it for her because she's a picky eater. I think it has helped alot -- she's more willing to try new foods now (not that she always finishes them!)
I highly reccommend this video! Buy it for yourself, even if you don't have a picky eater in your house! It's that funny!

(More customer reviews)Hurray for Sesame Street! They've made yet another video that appeals to all ages. Like many toddlers, the children in our household tend to watch the same video over and over and over again. They seem to thrive on repetition which is wonderful for their learning and growing (albeit sometimes a little irritating for the "older" family members). By including the rythmic geniuses of the Stomp! crew, they've managed to capture the attention and creativity of the toddlers and entertain the rest of the family as well.
Their use of simple, everyday objects as musical instruments was particularly appealing, especially in these days of heavy commercialism. We also enjoyed the dancing and the familiar Sesame Street characters. This video invites participation so there's no need to worry about the "couch potato effect."
"Let's Make Music" is our family favorite!

Elmo's World - Babies, Dogs & More (2010) Review

(More customer reviews)My daughter has always loved Sesame Street with Elmo being her favorite puppet. We have the Best of Elmo, which she loves so we had to get this one since she loves looking at other babies and dogs. The segments are adorable with about 15 minutes spent on each. We get to see many different babies, even the Sesame Street cast as babies as well. The dog segment is great for us since it shows our daughter how to get along with our dog. The farm segment is my favorite. Elmo wants to tape Oscar feeding his animals, so he jumps into Oscar's trash can much to Oscar's objection. It is the first look I've ever gotten inside his can. I'll agree with one reviewer as it isn't as educational as the other Elmo's world videos, however it does teach about our world and the life in it. My daughter has been watching Elmo since she was about 8 months old (she's now a lil over 1) and her adoration has grown each day. This is a definite keeper and at the most it will keep your child entertained for about 50 minutes. This is the perfect time to get my daughter to munch on some healthy snacks while I clean up.
