Rolie Polie Olie - Round Pal, Square Friend (1998) Review

This one seems extra special. Sure it is still only 24 minutes long, but the stories are fabulous! Rolie and Billie play round and square games and even change bodies. There is a new guy called Wheelie with one wheel. He is older and really cool. He takes Olie and Zowie to the park to play. What a park! Full of fun roller skating and swings. They have a blast with Wheelie! This video teaches that differences are good in others and to learn to walk in each others shoes to appreciate those differences. I like the message! And this video stands out with it's extra special animation and activities. A must have!

Winnie the Pooh: Sing a Song With Tigger (1999) Review

Winnie the Pooh: Sing a Song With Tigger (1999)

While my kids may be a bit young for this video, the oldest (just under 3) appreciates the sing-along far better than she tolerates the Winnie the Pooh cartoons; for some reason she can't make it through a half-hour of the show while she can manage this video. She is especially drawn to the Scrapbook song, which is current Disney channel "filler" between "Bear" and the other shows. Several of the songs are also recognizable from the Tigger movie, which she liked. In all, I think this video is a good way to introduce younger children to Pooh and his friends without losing too much interest. it also makes for interesting times when she expects her parents to read the lyrics to her off the screen; that is probably the real treat here is to hear an adult actually try to keep pace with the show.

Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966) Review

I bought this set because my daughter so enjoyed her other video, "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" (which seems to be out of print now). I didn't realize that this set is essentially a repackaging of the same material from that video (1 of the 4 tapes is new material). I much prefer the original tape to this set - there are a lot of ads at the beginning of every tape, so the "ads to watchable video" ratio is extremely high in the set version. There were ads on the original tape, too, but you simply went through them once and then had essentially 3 tapes of uninterrupted watchable video. This set is clever packaging that makes it look like you're getting a lot at a good price, when in fact you're essentially getting one movie over multiple tapes and 4 times the amount of ads that you would normally see.

Winnie the Pooh - Frankenpooh and Spookable Pooh Review

Winnie the Pooh - Frankenpooh and Spookable Pooh

3 and a half stars. Ok the good stuff: This has nothing really scary at all in it, so its pretty good for very young kids. Its also Pooh, so its just plain fun to watch. Tigger is hilarious! The few things I was disappointed with were the length, around 60 minutes for both programs(5 shorts in total), and the box said 70, and it should have had "Boo to You Too" to make it even more 'halloweenish'.
My favorite was "Frankenpooh", but it was only 5 minutes long! "Things that go Piglet in the Night" is about piglet being mistaken for a ghost, its very funny. In "Pooh Moon", the gang mistakes eachother for monsters (the GrabMe Gotchas!), also pretty funny. "Knight to Remember" had piglet imagining he is a knight and has to be brave and slay a dragon, its a cute story that kids will really enjoy! and "Rock a Bye Pooh" Piglet has a nightmare (not very scary) so won't fall asleep, its really sweet because Pooh, Rabbit and Tigger are really good friends and try to help Piglet get over his nightmare. Also the bonus features (a game and a fun sing along song) aren't really to do with this DVD, but with "Boo To You Too", which I think should have been included on the DVD to make it a complete Halloween collection.
