First off, let me say that I am not really one for low budget independent films, as they tend to disappoint heavily in both story content and acting ability, but being familiar with Charles Casillo's books I threw caution to the wind and decided to give Let Me Die Quietly a shot. I was completely blown away! The film is a well-crafted, phenomenally acted little thriller that builds slowly with each little plot twist and turn until the final shocking moments. Even in big budget Hollywood films, you would be hard-pressed nowadays to find a film with a shred of an original plot device, but Casillo manages to take a genre that has been done to death and injects a ton of originality into this thriller. Kudos to Casillo for a stellar script and storyline that held my interest throughout, as well as for his spectacular, haunting performance as Mario. Dana Perry is also outstanding as Gabrielle. There were several plot twists that I did not see coming at all - I won't give them away here - but for a debut independent film I was extremely impressed by the acting, the writing and the overall production values of everyone involved. I am so glad I took a chance and bought a copy and didn't go the usual route and do the rental thing!
