(More customer reviews)The graphics are nice on this, but the plot feels like it's part 2 in a trilogy. Like they skipped the part (a few hints) of how or why they got stranded on the island, and leave it open for sequels. They do however include plenty of adult scenes to make up where the plot leaves off, but even those look a bit mechanical with loops. Spoiler- there's a tentacle monster for those who are into that sort of thing.

The Goldilocks and the 3 Bears Show (2008) Review

(More customer reviews)We rented this because my kids liked the other Unstable Fables movies and they really loved this one. My 7 year old was talking about the jokes after the movie ended and singing the "Family" song, and wanted to play it again the next day. We wanted to buy it when we returned it, but the Blockbuster already sold out. My husband thought it was funny too. I reccommend for families.

Care Bears: Giving Festival Movie Review

(More customer reviews)"Giving Festival Movie" is the latest CGI film in the "Care Bears" series as of 2010 and part of the "Adventures in Care-a-Lot" franchise, though not marketed under that title.
Visually, the film is absolutely wonderful. It's obvious that they've upgraded the quality of their CGI since "Oopsy Does It" and it shows in some delightful backgrounds and eye-catching special effects. There are also some slight changes to the character models, but they don't bother me.
"Giving Festival Movie" is presented as a series of three segments tied around one story. It begins with the Care Bears getting ready for the Giving Festival and the arrival of their good friend Princess Starglow. Grumpy has designed a machine to make snow, but a big windstorm blowing through Care-a-Lot threatens to cancel the festival. It gets them thinking about past times, leading into the first main story, in which Grizzle decides to try to move Care-a-Lot away from his home. He ends up creating a big quake and then getting stranded in Care-a-Lot. The Care Bears take him back home, but he repays their kindness by trying to trick them into a trap. In the second story, Oopsy, Wingnut, and True Heart decide to give the new Care Team: Funshine, Cheer, Grumpy and Share a vacation, a day all to themselves having fun. Oopsy invites True Heart to join them, but she runs off and cries and Oopsy & Wingnut learn that she's scared of riding the Funderbolt. They resolve to help her out, but must first deal with an emergency involving the Care Team. In the final story, the Care Team has to rescue Princess Starglow, who has been trapped in a cage by Windle. Windle doesn't like the Giving Festival and is trying to stop Princess Starglow from coming.
This is not a musical, but that is not to say that the music isn't good. There are three songs - the show title theme (used right at the beginning), the energetic "Care Power On" and finally "The Giving Season's Here" at the end of the film.
The film is presented in 1:78:1, enhanced for widescreen TVs and with closed-captions. The sound is 5.1 Dolby Digital. This film is not rated, but would probably be suitable for all but the very youngest audiences. Bonus features include trailers for other film and television releases, the game Save the Giving Festival! and the "Care Bears Adventures in Care-a-Lot" episode "Belly Blanked / All Give and No Take" (traditional animation.)

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs + The Scrat Pack (2009) Review

(More customer reviews)My children greatly enjoyed Episode Three in the ongoing saga of Ice Age and indeed it is probably the best so far, being funny and clever and very tight. There is plenty of visual humor, verbal humor, and situational humor and very little is over-played (though the birthing scene comes close to being working the joke too much). So the movie itself is a great addition to the family's DVD or BluRay collection. But this particular DVD double-pack is a shameless confidence trick. The ScratPack disc is utterly without merit. There are no new animated sequences and most of it is tedious in the extreme. It looks as if it took someone eight minutes to compile, though that might be exaggerating the effort and thought that went into it. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to buy this double-pack; just go for the movie alone.

Cars Toon: Mater's Tall Tales (Two Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) Review

(More customer reviews)For those of you who do not have the Disney Channel, Mater's Tall Tales are five minute CGI animated shorts based on characters from Pixar's Cars. They are about the tow truck, Mater, regaling his friends on his numerous (and outrageously unrealistic) adventures such as meeting a UFO, being a world famous bullfighter, professional wrestler or daredevil, and other crazy situations. These shorts always fall back on the same joke where Lightning McQueen challenges Mater's tale as being true and Mater replying with, "Don't you remember? You was there too", which ends with McQueen being in the thick of the tall tale.
The animation quality is on par with the movie. Plus you get appearances of other Cars characters like Sally, Red, Mia and Tia and more. They even get just about all of the original actors to do the voiceovers with the notable exception of Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen (replaced by veteran voice talent Keith Ferguson). All in all a fun little cartoon to fill time between shows on Disney.
This Blu-Ray collects all of the shorts ever released and a couple that haven't come out yet. This totals nine cartoons, so it's not exactly a large amount of content at about 40 minutes. You do, however, get about 50 minutes of additional features to whet your whistle. Here's a list of the bonus stuff:
Paths to Pixar - Similar featurette to the ones on other Pixar collections this has interviews with Pixar artists, editors and such and gives insights on their experiences and other career details.
Studio Stories: McQueen Has No Hands - The challenges of manipulating a map when your character doesn't have any hands.
Mater: Bumper to Bumper - Goes into detail about the creation of Mater and how he is animated.
Making of Mater's Tall Tales - Self Explanatory. Documentary on creating the Mater shorts from conception to finished product.
Unmade Tales - Some of the ideas that didn't make it to production. Each one has an intro by Director Rob Gibbs and are pitched by the story artist. Tales include Runway Mater, Stunt Mater, Backwards to the Forwards, Car-nival and Import Mater.
Cars Toons Story Reels - Mater the Greater, Unidentified Flying Mater and Mater Private Investigator all shown in their conformed storyreels shown against the final audio track. You also have a picture in picture option to see both the reel and the finished product.
Cars Land Sneak Peek - Just as it says you get to see the upcoming Disney California Adventure attraction Cars Land. Mainly behind the scenes stuff.
If you love the movie Cars and/or the Mater shorts then of course this is the disk for you. Makes me wonder if they will re-release the Toy Story Treats that were done in 1996 somewhere on a Blu-Ray collection. Just keep in mind you are paying for about 90 minutes of content including all of the bonus features. It's a short disk.

Toy Story 2 (Two-Disc Special Edition) (1999) Review

(More customer reviews)I took my Niece to see it and expected it to begood but I was not prepared for what followed. What a terrific movie.Woody and Buz have worked through the problems that existed between them in the first Toy Story and have become the best of friends. I laughed throughout the movie. What humor, I loved the scene where Mrs. Potato Head is packing Mr. Potato Head for his trip to save Woody and she packs his angry eyes "just in case". The depth of the personalities, the humor and thoughtfulness of each of the characters makes me feel as though these are real people. I have put this movie on my list of "All Time Favorites" My Niece is 5 and I am 47 and we both loved it. I am eagerly waiting for it to be available for home viewing so I can own my own copy. Hats off to Disney and Pixar for a job well done.
