It is such a great movie to put you in the "Holiday Mood" I also think that Lea Thompson, Tony Danza and Betty White do a great job with this movie. I edited my review because I have watched this movie so many times since my first review. It truly gives you the "Holiday Spirit" if you need it!! I highly recommend this one! If you're not sure, rent it before buying it!! Happy Holidays 365!!

Thick as Thieves (2000) Review

(More customer reviews)This independent film is a delightful dark comedy. The film stars Alec Baldwin as a professional theif with a subtle tough-guy demeanor and a love of vinyl jazz. Baldwin combines his dry wit, his myriad of facial expressions, and his trademark .45 auto into a thoroughly interesting character. Michael Jai White comes in as a reniassance hoodlum and Rebecca DeMornay is way out of type as a not particularly attractive cop. All of these actors plus a great performance by talented character actor Andre Braugher will keep you chuckling through the whole film. Keep in mind this film is a showcase of acting ability and not a testament to big pecs or explosions, but as smaller budget independent films go this one is on the A-list.

Mafia (1998) Review

(More customer reviews)I'll admit that I did not like this film the first time I saw it in the theatre. It started out at a snail's pace and seemed equally strained for laughter. However, there was a smattering of truly insightful comic genius throughout that made it mildly enjoyable. Then I watched it on video with a group of people. For some unknown reason I found myself laughing uncontrollably. As I watched the film again I then began to notice how much it followed the GODFATHER saga in parody. Once I began to realize what the filmmakers were doing it all started to take shape and made good comic sense. Not only did it follow the same inspirational format of AIRPLANE but it took the same approach with its audience: if this joke doesn't work for you we have plenty more lined up one after another and eventually you are going to start laughing. What's interesting is that you actually have to listen carefully to what is being said to really get the full effect of this well thought out comedy because it is much more than just a parody.

When his deceased girlfriend's daughter, Barbara Dahl, (both played by Stephanie Romanov), is captured by the evil General Rancor (Andy Griffith), Agent Steele is sent to rescue her and to stop the General from his evil plans. With the help of the beautiful Veronique Ukrinsky (Nicolette Sheridan), there is a 'slim and remote' possibility that they might succeed! Will the duo be able to save the world? Also starring is Charles Durning as The Director who has a love for 'camouflage and disguises', Marcia Gay Harden as Miss Cheevus (say her name real fast ;), Barry Bostwick as Norman Coleman, and Elya Baskin as Professor Ukrinsky.
Just looking at the names of the characters, I'm sure you suspect that this movie will have lots of puns, silly jokes, slapstick comedy, and stupid scenes. Your right! It's amazing how much silliness could be incorporated into this movie which parodies all forms of spy and action movies! The jokes at times work well though at times they fall completely flat. Also the same jokes are used a lot and come off a bit boring after many repeats. But some scenes do come off right and made my family roll off the couch laughing! Some of my favorite scenes:
*Leslie Nielsen's 'kung fu' against the Russian agent.*
*Leslie Nielsen and Nicolette Sheridan making those ridiculous faces at each other in the airplane!
*The last 'battle' with the good guys versus the evil guys.
But ultimately, 'Weird Al' Yankovic's opening credits is the best part of the whole movie! It was so extremely funny, he makes fun of some of 007 movie's opening credits. I gave this movie an extra star because of the great 'Weird Al' Yankovic.
So, to put it all together, "Spy Hard" is nothing special though it has many entertaining qualities to it. Expect lots of silliness and stupidity. On the good side is that the movie is one 1 hr. and 20 min. lots, it does not get too boring and repetitive. I recommend the movie for those who love this type of slapstick comedy. The movie is rated PG-13 because of crude humor and some sexual humor. For this reason I recommend parents to see this movie before showing their children, but I suggest that very young children shouldn't watch "Spy Hard".

Badder Santa (Unrated Widescreen Edition) (2003) Review

(More customer reviews)If you are a fan of Bad Santa, DO NOT BUY THIS DVD. I bought it expecting extended and restored scenes, instead I got a totally different ending and hilarious scenes cut out.
This version ends with the little boy outside trying to clean up the blood on his front steps rather than giving the bully a swift kick in the nards.
One of the scenes cut out is the scene in the gym where Willie and Marcus are trying to teach the little boy how to defend himself. That was one of the funniest scenes in the movie.
The packaging is deceptive. If they had said, "new ending" on the notes, I would have left it alone. It didn't and I wasted my money. I thought I would come on here and post a warning.
