Snow (2004) Review

Snow (2004)

This TV movie is so much more than the made-for-tv holiday fluff that one often finds the networks cranking out each December. Snow is charming and loveable, with great characters and a winning role by the always-wonderful Tom Cavanagh. I watched it twice last year and am so thrilled that ABC Family decided to release the DVD. This is certainly a new holiday classic in my house!

I absolutely LOVE this movie!! It is such a great movie to put you in the "Holiday Mood" I also think that Lea Thompson, Tony Danza and Betty White do a great job with this movie. I edited my review because I have watched this movie so many times since my first review. It truly gives you the "Holiday Spirit" if you need it!! I highly recommend this one! If you're not sure, rent it before buying it!! Happy Holidays 365!!

Once Upon a Christmas (2006) Review

Once Upon a Christmas (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS is a made for tv movie filled with schmaltz, goo and Christmas sentiment; however, it's message is good and it's an enjoyzble movie to sip some egg nog with.
Kathy Ireland is gorgeous; can she act? Well, in the Christmas spirit, let's just say if anyone can get away with syrupy dialogue, Ireland's the one. The rest of the cast is mediocre with the exception of the delightful Liz Torres who is wonderful as the Tooth Fairy.
The plot revolves around Santa's disillusion with Christmas, so his youngest daughter Kristin (Ireland) convinces her pop to let Christmas go on if she can change one family's whose name has been crossed off the nice list. Matters are complicated by her witchy older sister Rudolfa, who wants Christmas to go in a new direction--Christmas Fools Day with whooopie cushions, etc.
The movie did well enough that it spawned a sequel TWICE UPON A CHRISTMAS, which I haven't seen yet, but I don't have a burning desire since this one is just okay. Merry Christmas.

Christmas Snow Review

Christmas Snow
Average Reviews:

I found this DVD at Kmart for $3. It came with a dvd of Christmas music. I figured for the price I would take a chance.
It was a made for TV movie from 1986 based on the novelette "London Snow". It stars Katherine Helmond, veteran actor Sid Caesar, a very young Melissa Joan Hart, and Kimble Joyner. It won an Emmy in 1987 for cinematography and an ASC award in 1988. It's only 48 minutes long.
It seems to be set in the 1950's. Mrs Mutterance (Helmond)is a widow who runs a candy shop in the lower level of a building where she lives on the 2nd floor with her 2 adopted children (Joyner and Hart). Her mean spirited Landlord, Mr Snyder(Caesar)tells her she has two weeks to vacate the building 2 days before Christmas. After a blizzard, Mr. Snyder turns up missing. Mrs. Mutterance and children go looking for him. The moral of the story is helping others even when they are not nice to you.
Melissa Joan Hart is very cute in this movie and I thought all of the actors were good, but I thought this presentation fell short of a holiday classic. I think it is a better production than the made for tv movies are today. Not as silly and shallow. Well worth the $3 I paid for it. This is the 2nd year I watched it.

Christmas at Water's Edge (2004) Review

Their heart was in the right place, but I wouldn't waste my money on this movie. I am a huge fan of both of the main actors, Hall and Pullian, but was greatly disappointed in the overall production value and screenplay. With a slightly more believable story, better dialog, and better cinematography/production value, this could have been a great movie. I hate to bash anything someone has put time/effort into, and especially with actors I really like, but truth be told, I can't recommend this movie to anyone.

A Holiday for Love (1996) Review

A Holiday for Love (1996)
Average Reviews:

I love Christmas movies and I also love Christmas themed romance books and this movie though not adapted from a romance book really seems like it could have been. It is about an executive working for a large company that makes farm equipment, the company is having finincial problems and thinks that by cutting jobs at the factory level that it will get itself out of finincial trouble so they send several executives to several small towns to go undercover and investigate how eficient the factories are being run and to make up a report to see if the factories should be closed. Tim Matheson reluctantly goes to a smalltown in Nebraska which actually was his hometown that he moved away from when he was a child and his mother left his father. He winds up getting stranded in a blizzard and meets a young widow and her daughter played by Melissa Gilbert and Michelle Tractenberg and spins a tale that gets out of control when he pretends to be a big buyer of farm equipment that the townspeople think will save their factory and town and then he falls for Melissa Gilbert's character which is complicated by the fact that she happens to work at the factory with her father and brother and that closing it down will not only put her and her out of a job but her family and the majority of the towns people too which would destroy their economy and he starts to feel guilty about his deceiving everyone, including the woman that he loves and another factor is that she is dating the sherrif played by Travis Tritt who is suspicious of him and his motives. This is a very good movie and Tim Matheson, Melissa Gilbert and Michelle Tractenberg were all very good but so was country singer Travis Tritt as the sherrif and I must say that even though I enjoyed the romance between Tim Matheson and Melissa Gilbert's character's Jake and Emma I still felt bad for Travis Tritt's character Tim but as it appeared that local gal Betsy had a crush on him and they were sitting together at the Christmas dinner at the retirement home that perhaps Tim and Betsy got together. I very highly recommend this movie which was originally a made for CBS television movie with the title Christmas in my Hometown and has been rerun ever since with that same title every December on Lifetime TV but when it was released on DVD the title for some reason was changed to Holiday For Love which is a nice title but I prefer the original title, Christmas in My Hometown! This DVD is out of print and hopefully it will someday be rereleased with the original title.

Christmas Child (A Max Lucado Story) Review

Christmas Child (A Max Lucado Story)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just in time for the holidays, Christmas Child is a return to those heartwarming Christmas movies that we grew up loving. William Moses plays journalist Jack Davenport and Megan Fellows portrays his wife Meg. The movie takes us through their marriage struggles during the holidays as Jack seeks to find his roots after the death of his father. Both actors come across as genuine and engaging. Steven Curtis Chapman is surprsingly good in his role as Pastor Curtis. Although shot in Oklahoma, a timely snow in Tulsa makes for a convincing portrayal of the Chicago scenes.
With the recent onslaught of zany Christmas comedies and off-the-wall perspectives on the holiday, Christmas Child provides a more traditional and yet entertaining Christmas story. Best of all, this a movie you can watch with the kids without having to hit the mute button or explain adult humor. A movie that all ages should enjoy.

All She Wants for Christmas Review

All She Wants for Christmas
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Maybe I have bad taste or something, but I actually enjoyed this movie (albeit, only as a guilty pleasure), and was surprised to see all the one-star reviews. This is your typical made-for-tv / lifetime-original-movie fare, and if you go into it knowing what to expect, it's an enjoyable ride. Sure, it's corny, patronizing, and full of hammy acting from no-name actors, but it's a sweet and simple movie that captures the spirit of the season pretty well...and that's what I expect from this type of feature. After watching Lifetime Network's Christmas specials for the past few weeks, this one actually stands out as one of the better efforts.

Monica Keena of Dawson s Creek and Entourage stars as Noelle Dunn, a small town woman with big business dreams working as an efficiency expert at the local Christmas ornament company. But there s trouble in store for her once-merry city, including financial struggles for the factory, an incoming MegaMart, and charming stranger (Tobias Mehler of Young Blades and Stargate SG-1) who may not be what he seems. Now all Noelle has to do is save the company, unite the town, survive a broken romance and get back on her corporate career path, all before December 25th. Steven Bacic (Andromeda) co-stars in this top-rated Lifetime holiday hit where people are more important than money, compromise is a grow industry, and love can be the most unexpected gift of all.

Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus (2004) Review

Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus (2004)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This film was originally shown on the Hallmark channel in 2004 and I know it is being repeated this year. It's a sappy charmer but the best Christmas movies tend to be sappy charmers anyway and this one does a very good job. The movie stars Steve Guttenberg who had really kind of disappeared for a few years but seems to be making a but of a comeback even if it's not in A features.
Guttenberg is Nick, the son of Santa Claus. His dad is retiring and Nick is going to take over the job but before he can he has to find a Mrs. Claus. Now obviously this is same plot used in the Santa Clause 2 so while it's not terribly original, it's pulled off well for a TV movie. Anyway he heads to Southern California where he eventually meets Beth played by Crystal Bernard. He of coruse has to win Beth over and convince her to believe in Santa. Beth is a hard-working career woman, widower, and mother who has a son named Jake. She works for an ad agency and Nick actually plays Santa in commercials that the company does. Well of course you know how the film turns out, right?
Guttenberg is always a likable guy and brings a regular guy charm to his roles. Bernard is equally likable, always playing the nice girl. It's a good family picture. Hallmark had made a sequel called "Meet the Santas" which should be popping up any day now. As they say...check your listings!

Holiday in Handcuffs (2007) Review

Holiday in Handcuffs (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have liked Melissa Joan Hart since her days on Clarissa Explains It All so I was pleased to see she was back on TV again. This movie takes place at Christmas time and is basically a story about a woman who sees herself as a failure through her family's eyes and is hoping that bringing home her successful boyfriend for Christmas will prove she finally got something right, until he dumps her Christmas Eve and leaves her hanging.
She sees a very handsome man at the diner where she is working and tells her mom everything is hunky dory and kidnaps the handsome guy and takes him hostage (hence the handcuffs). From here the plot unravels in the typical romantic comedy faire where he is trying to convince everyone he's been kidnapped and she says it's a kind of joke he likes to play and we all get our happy ending. As I have said, it is the typically romantic comedy plot but there are some very funny moments and I can definitely see myself watching this movie again. If you like MJH, you will enjoy this movie.

True this is not the movie described above. But it is a cute christmas movie that was on the Hallmark channel last year.
Its about a boy who hears about a contest that would grant 1 child's christmas wish. So he asks for a husband for his mom and wins. Making it a very interesting holiday season.
