(More customer reviews)In this nice little thriller, the rich wife of a cheating husband hires a thug duo to kill the babysitter, who is pregnant with the hubby's child. The thugs decide to hold their 5 year old boy for ransom too and collect diamonds along with their hit money. Problem is, they've gone to the wrong condo, killed the wrong woman, and now have to deal with the real babysitter out to protect both boys. Suspenseful and not cheesy like some 'babysitter' killer movies, this one portrays the pretty blonde babysitter (played by cute Josie Bissett) as a likeable medical student with a lot of common sense and guts!!! The only thing I didn't like about the movie was that by the end, I was ready to kill the annoying 5 year old boy myself!!! Rated R for some violence, this must have been a made-for-cable movie, and should've been rated PG-13.

Leona Helmsley: Queen of Mean (1990) Review

(More customer reviews)This made-for-TV movie was based on the novel of the same name, by Piers Randsdell, and follows Randsdell's expose quite well. While the movie shows determination to show some compassion for Leona Helmsley, more so than the book, the hard, cold fact is that she is a very unlikable person.
From her childhood competition against her sisters for her mother's affections, through her first and second marriages, and forward into her opulent life as Mrs. Harry Helmsley, Leona showed admirable determination to better herself. Unfortunately, what might have been a commendable trait turned into a greed so self-focused that it became a shroud of ugliness rather than a cape of courage.
It's hard to believe that an intelligent businessman was so manipulated by this shark in woman's clothing, but only sharks swim with sharks, and Harry Helmsley was no innocent victim to this diabolical schemer. Leona could have written a book called `How to manipulate stupid rich men', highlighting the parts of inane flattery and a fake engagement to drive Helmsley into a decision.
Sharks also only give birth to sharks, and Leona's son Jay follows in his mother's footsteps by embezzling money from the Helmsley's themselves when appointed a cushy position in one of Harry's hotel chains. Leona did seem to be quite upset when Jay dies of a heart attack at a young age, but the Mean overrules the Queen when she disowns Jay's widow and her own grandchildren, cutting them off completely from any contact or inheritance.
From making her assistant wipe her shoes, to firing decorators so that she can take the credit, going off over wet lettuce, furnishing her private home through business purchases, and most of all believing that money allowed her to treat "little people" like Dirt, Leona Helmsley is truly the Queen Of Mean.
Especially for a made-for-TV movie, The Queen Of Mean is a definite jewel if you can find a copy. The VHS is hard to find, and it's too much to hope for this well adapted movie to come out on DVD (though my fingers are crossed). Look for an absolutely spectacular performances from Suzanne Pleshette as Leona Helmsley, and Lloyd Bridges as Harry Helmsley. Special mention to Raymond Singer as Jay, and a well fleshed out supporting cast.
Pleshette and Bridges really make the movie happen, I doubt it would have been as good with any other leads. I'm lucky enough to have an older VHS copy, so if dramatized biographies are your cup of tea, you may want to seek out a copy of this excellent film. Enjoy!

(More customer reviews)To be truely correct: Wes Craven's "Summer of Fear". Actually, "Wes Craven Presents Lois Duncan's Summer of Fear".
18 year old Rachel Bryant is getting used to the fact that her aunt and uncle have died in a car crash. But mostly, her cousin Julia who was at boarding school at the time. It's summer, and Rachel thinks she can deal with her cousin Julia. But there is something funny about Julia....
Rachel finds strange artifacts in her room that she is sharing with Julia such as a picture of herself with red splotches all over it. Wait a minute....Rachel suddenly suffered from hives a few days ago. And Rachel's horse has acted strangely around Julia until it suddenly had to be put down. And there is a strange figure with her horses hair on it....What is going on with Julia?!
I enjoyed "Summer Of Fear" since I first saw it on TV several years ago under the title "Stranger in Our House". It's creepy and some good plot twists help make this a winning horror flick for the ages.

(More customer reviews)OK, so everyone hates Ted McGinley's character in this movie. But he did a great job with the role. McGinley plays Mitch Carson, a sick, perverted, creepy wierdo who lures teenage girls over the internet from their homes to his hideout where he holds them against their will and actually offers them for sale over the internet. The 16 year old girl in this movie is Martha, a lonely and troubled teen who is the latest to fall victim to Carson. Ted McGinley from first glance in this movie appears as a very normal guy. He dresses nicely, talks to Martha nicely when he picks her up from his buddy Drew, whom Martha was first lured to. "Hi Martha" McGinley sais, "I'm Mitch Carson, I'm just another computer geek who works for an organization which helps kids in trouble get back home and away from guys like Drew." "Can I call my mom?" Martha asks him. "Sure", Carson(McGinley) sais, smiling all innocent to her, "you can use the cell in my truck." Well, the nice guy routine works, into his truck she goes. But the cell phone is dead, and with more and more sweet talking, Martha and Mitch carson are off to his hideout, which Martha is totally unsuspecting of. She thinks Carson is taking her to meet her parents somewhere. The suspense really, really builds about 45 minutes into the movie, and does it ever get cree-eeepy!! It's not a movie for everyone, but if you're in the mood for a creepy, suspenseful thriller this is it!! I think it's also a true story which makes it even more chilling. Martha's mother, played by Cheryl Ladd, you will enjoy watching as well, as she is very attractive and does a great job as playing a mother who is about to have a breakdown if she doesn't find her daughter. Another movie I recommend, although I don't think it's on VHS or DVD is a Lifetime Original movie titled, "Video Voyeur: The Susan Wilson Story", starring Angie Harmon. As you guessed, it comes on Lifetime from time to time.

Escape Clause (1997) Review

(More customer reviews)Grabbed this one purely because I needed a Kate McNeil fix. Getting harder and harder to find her these days.
The poor early dialogue and overdone exposition made me think this is another cheesy cable drama, but once the story begins to unfold (and the dialogue lessens) it really rolls out into a darn good thriller. Many different suspects (the parents, the friend, the lover, the co-worker), lots of motives keep you guessing.
Its no frills, you won't have anywhere near the production value of Seven, Silence of the Lambs, or even Kiss the Girls. And try not to pay to much attention to Andrew McCarthy, or Paul Sorvino for that matter, as their minimalist approach to character will only distract you from the story.
Too bad this little script ultimately found itself in the low-budget land of straight-to-video. A little TLC and a few bucks could have paid big dividends here.
All in all a very pleasant surprise.

I am a movie lover and this one definitely goes to the top of my long movie list. If only all men could learn a lesson like that ladies, we would have the best men around unfortunately, we don't. Brian Austin "Hottie" Green's performance was amazing. He transformed from a Jerk in the beginning and made you simpathize with him in the end. I loved this movie and recommend it to EVERYONE...

A Stranger's Heart (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)I too saw this movie on the Hallmark Channel. It was recommended by a friend of mine who had a transplant 10 years ago. I also have a daughter who had a bone marrow and kidney transplant, 19 yrs and 3 years ago. This movie brought back memories I had forgotten. The feelings of helplessness, of living in hospitals, seeing other patients pass away, withdrawing from life ... so many conflicting emotions. I felt it was an accurate portrayal of what a person experiences. The characters could have been more developed and some of the details seemed a little bit stretched, but still believable. It is a heart-warming story and makes you want to truly treasure your health and the blessings you've been given.

Hidden In Silence - Based on a True Story (1996) Review

(More customer reviews)Kellie Martin shines in this fine adaptation of the story of the young Catholic Polish teenager who put her life on the line to save the Jews in her country. Faced with incredible odds, she trusted God to deliver them, and He answered her prayers.
The ensemble cast is magnificent, and what was really nice about the film was the fact that it was not very explicit in the violence against the Jews. You saw a few minor scenes, but it wasn't the point of the movie, anyway. If you want really explicit scenes, there's always Schinder's List, but that was a different story.
This is a really nice teaching tool for your older children, and provides a launching pad for a dialogue on the Holocaust.
Highly recommended!!!

A Holiday for Love (1996) Review

(More customer reviews)I love Christmas movies and I also love Christmas themed romance books and this movie though not adapted from a romance book really seems like it could have been. It is about an executive working for a large company that makes farm equipment, the company is having finincial problems and thinks that by cutting jobs at the factory level that it will get itself out of finincial trouble so they send several executives to several small towns to go undercover and investigate how eficient the factories are being run and to make up a report to see if the factories should be closed. Tim Matheson reluctantly goes to a smalltown in Nebraska which actually was his hometown that he moved away from when he was a child and his mother left his father. He winds up getting stranded in a blizzard and meets a young widow and her daughter played by Melissa Gilbert and Michelle Tractenberg and spins a tale that gets out of control when he pretends to be a big buyer of farm equipment that the townspeople think will save their factory and town and then he falls for Melissa Gilbert's character which is complicated by the fact that she happens to work at the factory with her father and brother and that closing it down will not only put her and her out of a job but her family and the majority of the towns people too which would destroy their economy and he starts to feel guilty about his deceiving everyone, including the woman that he loves and another factor is that she is dating the sherrif played by Travis Tritt who is suspicious of him and his motives. This is a very good movie and Tim Matheson, Melissa Gilbert and Michelle Tractenberg were all very good but so was country singer Travis Tritt as the sherrif and I must say that even though I enjoyed the romance between Tim Matheson and Melissa Gilbert's character's Jake and Emma I still felt bad for Travis Tritt's character Tim but as it appeared that local gal Betsy had a crush on him and they were sitting together at the Christmas dinner at the retirement home that perhaps Tim and Betsy got together. I very highly recommend this movie which was originally a made for CBS television movie with the title Christmas in my Hometown and has been rerun ever since with that same title every December on Lifetime TV but when it was released on DVD the title for some reason was changed to Holiday For Love which is a nice title but I prefer the original title, Christmas in My Hometown! This DVD is out of print and hopefully it will someday be rereleased with the original title.

You see the Kern County Witchhunt was not limited to Kern County; it extended into Tulare County also. I know because my family has been living a nightmare because of false charges of child molestation since 1985. God instructed me to create a support group for innocent prisoners in 1989 which I did. I wrote several articles about false accusations in Tulare County for a local Tulare County newspaper and one article for a small newspaper in Bakersfield, California concerning the subject of false charges of child molestation. My son, daughter, and me was on a local radio station in Kern County two times discussing this subject. I named a name of local police officer who terrorized little children into lying about their parents. As a result, it was pay back time for me and after they along with others succeeded in brainwashing my grown daughter into saying I told her not to testify, that God would not like it and that she could be gotten for perjury, I spent over 5 years in prison for witness intimidation for allegingly stating the statements that my daughter claimed I said, but I never even talked to her about testifying at all. I was totally innocent and am currently on supervise release for another 2 years. Anyone who does not believe that thousands of parents in Kern,Tulare,Kings,Fresno,Butte,San Bernadino counties were imprisoned on false charges of child molestation is highly wrong because it truly did occur in the Child Abuse War of the 1980's. This movie is really a representation of the thousands who suffered as a result of this abuse against the family and I am thankful that this excellent movie was made.

Video Voyeur - The Susan Wilson Story (2002) Review

Starring Angie Harmon, Jamey Sheridan (both in the Law & Order franchise) and Dale Midkiff, this is about a family who move to Louisiana and their friendly neighbour, who happens to be a Deacon in the church, plants cameras in the house and spies on them.
What's make this hit home is that this is true and could happen to anyone. It makes you think about all the daft things you do when alone (like singing in the shower!) when you think no-one's looking.
There are great performances all round, from the whole cast. I've only seen Angie Harmon on Law & Order and was pleasantly surprised by how good an actress she is. Dale Midkiff is also very good in this, as he gets older he gets better and so do the parts he's getting, and Jamey Sheridan is excellent as the creepy neighbour. TV movies are usually run of the mill but this is very good. Much better than the garbage that's made here in the UK.
However, the only thing is that this was made in Canada, not Louisiana and it shows, it looks really cold, not the South at all!

(More customer reviews)Usually, in stories like this, a teenage girl gets careless, becomes pregnant, and has to hide it from her mother. But here, it's the mother who gets careless, becomes pregnant, and has to hide it from her daughter! The aforementioned (single) mother has been discouraging her teenage daughter from becoming sexually active, while carrying on a wild, secret affair with a married man. When she becomes pregnant and her lover abandons her, she has to face her own hypocrisy. This film is a cut above most made-for-Lifetime-TV movies, thanks largely to Gail O'Grady's performance as the mother - she's always luminous and likable, even when some might question her behavior. Credit must also go to Danielle Panabaker as the daughter.

He wants to join the Navy and he promises to protect her. But when they move to California strange things start happening on base--a peeping Tom starts looking in women's windows and eventually women start being raped. Jennifer's husband admits that he looked in some windows but promises that nothing else happened. Since Jennifer is pregnant, she decides to give him a second chance. When they return home to New Mexico, once again women are being raped and Jennifer begins to suspect that her husband is to blame.
The Stranger Beside Me is classic Lifetime. Tiffani Amber Thiessen has made some of my favorite Lifetime movies, including She Fought Alone, and she excels in her role as a wife who can't trust her husband. This movie isn't great by any means, but if you're in the mood for a little drama that will keep you entertained, you don't have to look much further than this.

No One Would Tell (True Stories Collection TV Movie) (1996) Review

(More customer reviews)Candace Cameron and Fred Savage shake off the goody-goody images associated with the roles that brought them teen stardom on Full House and The Wonder Years. Cameron plays Stacy Collins, a normal high school girl full of insecurities who happens to land the class hunk. Savage is Bobby Tennyson, high school wrestler and all-around popular guy. When these two get together, Stacy finally knows what it feels like to be a part of the in-crowd and is so grateful she's willing to look past Bobby's numerous faults.
Their relationship starts off normal enough with Bobby wooing Stacy with flowers and love poems, but he gets progressively more possessive and jealous. Stacy initially thinks it's cute that Bobby is so protective until it gets to the point where he becomes overbearing and irrational. Even when he starts hitting her, she defends him to her friends telling them that you stick by the people you love. "Everything's fine" becomes her mantra even though those closest to her can plainly see that it's not the case.
This relationship closely mirrors the one in which Stacy's mother is involved. Her mother is too absorbed in her own dating situation to understand and acknowledge what's going on with Stacy. Stacy assumes the maternal role, in fact, berating her mother for allowing her boyfriend to treat her badly though she's willing to overlook Bobby's abusive nature. In fact, when her mother confronts her about the abuse, Stacy says "That's your story, not mine." That Stacy's mother backs off at this point is a disgrace and this film strives to point out that in any situation no one should let abuse slide.
This film came out in the early 1990's and was one of those Sunday Night movies aimed at letting teenagers know the ills that will befall them if they're not careful. It's stuck with me all these years because the message is delivered without a scolding undertone, but instead as a reminder of what can go horribly wrong if you let things spiral out of hand. Sally Jessy Raphael has a guest role as the judge in Bobby's trial and she reminds those present who witnessed Stacy's abuse that we have a responsibility to the people who we care about. It's a foolish and dangerous practice to simply shake off abuse with the adage "Love Hurts." It shouldn't.
