Three Days (2001) Review

Three Days (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this movie. I watch it on TV when it's on but some years it's only on once or not at all. It's not a movie all about Santa Claus. I'm religious and love the message of the movie, however it does not have a religious theme to it. You don't have to have that background to appreciate that it's all about love. It's about what love really is and what it takes for a man to realize how much he loves his wife and how far he will go to show that love. The ending is perfect. I can't believe they have not made this for every region. Before purchase, I called the company who made one of my DVD players because it did not have the region on it. They told me it would play any region but they lied. The only way I can play this movie is through my portable DVD player. I can hook my portable DVD player up to play through my TV so the whole family can enjoy the movie. It will also play on my computer. The movie is wonderful, but I would caution everyone to make sure they have a way to play it before purchase. I really don't understand why they don't make it for region 1 players.

Sorry, If I Love You ( Scusa ma ti chiamo amore ) Review

The Last Contract (Sista kontraktet) (1998)

This is an absorbing drama based on the assassination of Olof Palme, and has divergent stories: the killer himself, and the one investigator in particular trying to solve it, and having difficulties thrown in his way.
Michael Kitchen is superb and Mikael Persbrandt is a marvel in this. The ending was a complete surprise!

Sassy Girl Chun-Hyang Korean Drama (2005) Review

Sassy Girl Chun-Hyang Korean Drama (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was one of the top 10 Korean Drama of 2005, constantly in number 1 spot and rightfully so.
But if you don't like mushy stuff this series isn't for you.. At times it is a bit excessively corny. However the story line is unique and worth watching.. With good acting by Jae Hee and Chae-yeong and almost everyone else.
The editorial review / product description is about 5% right.. The series was made by KBS (Korean Broadcasting System) not PBS. It is the modern day version of the Legend of Chun-Hyang. In this series Seong Chun Hyang (Han Chae Young) is a daughter of a poor cabaret singer. She is pretty, independent and the smartest girl in school. Lee Mong-ryong (Jae Hee) is the bratty son of the police chief, who's always in trouble. The two high school kids are forced into an arranged marriage due to a drunken night incident, where they slept in a same room, which led to a huge rumor and an uncomfortable situation. This is where the story begins.
I'm not going to get into the details and ruin the spoiler. But watch it you might like it. It's the ultimate chick flick with lots of twists and turns and tragedy and finally a happy ending. I absolutely loved the hilarious previous life and other korean drama parodies the series pulled. Like the legend, there's rich and powerful Byun Hak-do who falls in love with Chun-Hyang and manipulates Chun-Hyang to break up with Mong-Ryong. There's also Chae-rin who is Mong-Ryong's first crush who wants the couple to break up.
Another name of the series is.. Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang (or Chun-Hyang).. I wish Amazon could post trailers of the videos.. You can find the trailer on you tube I guess..

I'll Take Manhattan Review

I'll Take Manhattan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Great drama of a wealthy family torn between greed, love and running an empire. Starring great actors like Barry Boswick and Jack Scialia and of course Perry King.....what more can you ask for?
An excellent plot that keeps you glued to the screen to see what will happen next. This is a mini series made in the tradition when filmmakers actually knew how to make great mini series and compromised on nothing.
I saw this series on TV in the late 70's and when I saw that it was recently released in DVD I grabbed it. It was so well made that I'll Take Manhattan (the catchy title) just remained a pleasant memory.
Make this great stylish production a part of your memory too and buy a copy. You will not be disappointed and you will be spending some long hours on real quality viewing. It's a PROMISE!!!

Meet Prince Charming (1999) Review

Meet Prince Charming (1999)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Meet Prince Charming" looks like something right out of a Romance Film 101 class. You have two neighbors, Samantha (Tia Carrere) and Jack (David Charvet), who hate each other at the start of the film. Why? Who knows...they never tell us what caused the tension to begin with. They both end up at the same dating service in the quaint little borough of Manhattan, NY. The service they use has a website and both of them immediately find someone online who they like. Neither one knows that they are in reality becoming enamored with the neighbor that they so despise (Imagine that!). Eventually, they go on a blind date and find out that they are actually made for each other (Imagine that again!!). Some of your favorite movie cliches are here too. You know...like the one where somebody tries to stop somebody else from getting married while they are at the altar. Or the one where two people who don't like each other get stuck in an elevator all by themselves. You gotta love it! The best thing of all is the long list of annoying product placements. It's like watching one long commercial. In fact, you should check out the credits and see the list of all the companies who paid to have their products in this film! All in all, the acting of both Carrere and Charvet is competent. I just wish they could find better scripts than boring junk like this.

Love With A Perfect Stranger Review

Love With A Perfect Stranger

I saw this movie on TV in 2001, and I LOVED it!! I can't really say why, except that the story line, Daniel Massey's dry humor,
the beautiful scenery, and last but not least - the happy ending just made my day. I especially recommend it for a busy, stressed person who needs to escape. Perfect!
I want it for my movie collection. ...

Morning Glory (1993) Review

Morning Glory (1993)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Christopher Reeve does a wonderful job in this one.
Set in the early 1940s, Reeve plays an ex-con who spend 5 years in prison for killing a prostitute. He wanders into a small town, searching for work. He answers an add in the newspaper by a woman advertizing for a "husband" to assist her in maintaining her farm and in raising her children. He works on the farm and eventually does marry her.
However, a local lady of questionable virtue takes an interest in him, which he rejects. When she is found murdered, he is arrested for the crime. What follows is a courtroom drama reminiscent of To Kill a Mockingbird in which the true murderer and the secrets of the town are revealed.
I found one small error in the story. It features a Hank Williams, Sr. song, "Your Cheating Heart," although that song was not released until about 10 years after the date in which the movie is set.
Overall, the film is quite enjoyable, although it does contain some rough language and a couple of sexually suggestive scenes. It is well worth obtaining if you can locate it.

Every Mother's Worst Fear (1998) Review

Every Mother's Worst Fear (1998)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK, so everyone hates Ted McGinley's character in this movie. But he did a great job with the role. McGinley plays Mitch Carson, a sick, perverted, creepy wierdo who lures teenage girls over the internet from their homes to his hideout where he holds them against their will and actually offers them for sale over the internet. The 16 year old girl in this movie is Martha, a lonely and troubled teen who is the latest to fall victim to Carson. Ted McGinley from first glance in this movie appears as a very normal guy. He dresses nicely, talks to Martha nicely when he picks her up from his buddy Drew, whom Martha was first lured to. "Hi Martha" McGinley sais, "I'm Mitch Carson, I'm just another computer geek who works for an organization which helps kids in trouble get back home and away from guys like Drew." "Can I call my mom?" Martha asks him. "Sure", Carson(McGinley) sais, smiling all innocent to her, "you can use the cell in my truck." Well, the nice guy routine works, into his truck she goes. But the cell phone is dead, and with more and more sweet talking, Martha and Mitch carson are off to his hideout, which Martha is totally unsuspecting of. She thinks Carson is taking her to meet her parents somewhere. The suspense really, really builds about 45 minutes into the movie, and does it ever get cree-eeepy!! It's not a movie for everyone, but if you're in the mood for a creepy, suspenseful thriller this is it!! I think it's also a true story which makes it even more chilling. Martha's mother, played by Cheryl Ladd, you will enjoy watching as well, as she is very attractive and does a great job as playing a mother who is about to have a breakdown if she doesn't find her daughter. Another movie I recommend, although I don't think it's on VHS or DVD is a Lifetime Original movie titled, "Video Voyeur: The Susan Wilson Story", starring Angie Harmon. As you guessed, it comes on Lifetime from time to time.

Navigating the Heart (2000) Review

Navigating the Heart (2000)
Average Reviews:

THEY HAVE CORRECTED THE PROBLEM MENTIONED IN THE OTHER REVIEWS. I too got the movie labeled Navigating The Heart but it was actually Natural Enemy (twice). Amazon was great about replacing and refunding and they notified the distributor about the problem. I then waited about a week and ordered it again because I had seen it on TV and liked it. I finally got the RIGHT DVD. I love this movie and got interested in the author of "Fishing With John", whose life this movie was based on, and ordered the book. Of course the movie was changed, as they always are, but both the the book and the movie are very good in my opinion and I would recomend it to anyone that likes romance stories.

Harlequin Romance Series - Diamond Girl - Vol 10 Review

Harlequin Romance Series - Diamond Girl - Vol 10
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Claire Barnard has been working as a paralegal for Denny Montana for four years (a playboy lawyer) and caters to his every whim, but he just sees her as reliable Claire. Until one day Dennys older brother (tall, dark) Regan appears in the office, determined to oversee the sale of the Montana Napa Hills vineyard. Regan immediately notices the fact that Claire is the driving force of his brothers' law firm, transforms Claire into a welldressed beauty (what some makeup and a new hairstyle can do!) and tells Claire of his plan to bring her and Denny together. For him it is business - he needs Denny distracted from estate agent Margot so he can convince Denny of his own ideas regarding the vineyard deal - but soon Regan is attracted to Claire himself.
I really liked this romantic movie. It is based on a Diana Palmer movie, but is actually quite different from the book. I believe some DP-fans were outaged about it, but hey, it is a 1998 movie and the book is an oldfashioned 80's romance novel with the overbearing hero and the little mouse/secretary heroine. I for one am happy they made Claire a paralegal with a mind of her own. She is no little mouse, has humor and I liked the chemistry between Joely Collins (Claire) and Regan (a yummy Jonathan Cake). This is romance as you read it in a romance novel, so I recommend it to all romantics. It is a 'Harlequin presents' movie, and I think this one is the best!

Escape Clause (1997) Review

Escape Clause (1997)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Grabbed this one purely because I needed a Kate McNeil fix. Getting harder and harder to find her these days.
The poor early dialogue and overdone exposition made me think this is another cheesy cable drama, but once the story begins to unfold (and the dialogue lessens) it really rolls out into a darn good thriller. Many different suspects (the parents, the friend, the lover, the co-worker), lots of motives keep you guessing.
Its no frills, you won't have anywhere near the production value of Seven, Silence of the Lambs, or even Kiss the Girls. And try not to pay to much attention to Andrew McCarthy, or Paul Sorvino for that matter, as their minimalist approach to character will only distract you from the story.
Too bad this little script ultimately found itself in the low-budget land of straight-to-video. A little TLC and a few bucks could have paid big dividends here.
All in all a very pleasant surprise.

Desperate for Love (1989) Review

Desperate for Love (1989)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This video is based loosely on a true story of young love and obsession gone horribly wrong and ending in murder. The subject matter involves a young lady (Tammy Lauren) "desperately" trying to win the affections of a young man who is only mildly interested in her, and the consequences of her using his best friend (Christian Slater) to attract his attention. Christian Slater's character has been in love with the young lady for sometime, and the misplaced affection he receives brings the situation to a horrible end. This film had a lot of conversational drama and very little action. Fans of Tammy Lauren and Christian Slater are probably going to want to own this film out of a since of completism, because both young people have considerable camera time. As a huge fan of Tammy Lauren myself, it pains me to see her talents wasted in this movie, but her ability to come off as real and true to the character she plays still stands out in the performance.

White Palace (1990) Review

White Palace (1990)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review refers to the DVD edition(Goodtimes Video) of "White Palace".....
There couldn't be two people at more opposite ends of the poles than Nora Baker and Max Baron. He's a 27 year old upwardly mobile executive, obsessive and compulsive, he's neat as a pin, and Jewish. She's 43, is in the "food preparation business"(serves up greasy hamburgers) ,lives in the low rent district, in a house that doesn't get cleaned and has never even met anyone Jewish. They meet twice by happenstance and although it seems all they really have in common is that they are both from St.Louis, they discover they are really not all together different.
Max is grieving for his young and beautiful wife, and Nora her child. And although they handle their grief in very different ways, they take solace in each others arms. Their whirlwind affair, brings a renewed spirit to each of them, but when the relationship steps up to a new level, they wonder how they will fit into each other's world.
It's a believable, beautiful, and at times a funny love story.Susan Sarandon lights up the screen with her portrayal of the fiesty Nora. Spader shines in a role that seems to be made for him. Other notables in the cast include Jason Alexander,Eileen Brennan, and Kathy Bates.
The DVD could have a better transfer. Although there's nothing that will impair your viewing, it didn't seem as sharp and clear as it could be.The sound in Dolby Dig surround was very good, but the film has been "Formatted from it's original version to fit your screen"(pan and scan), and I didn't see a widescreen edition available, so we don't have a choice of how we would like to view it. There are however captions in English and subtitiles in Spanish and French and may be viewed in those languages as well. There are no other special features included.
The film is rated R and even that is pushing the envelope somewhat. The loves scenes are very steamy(this one is definately not for the kiddies), but you'll also find a beautiful story of fate stepping in and lending a hand. A romantic film that is worth the view in any format.
Thanks and enjoy.....Laurie
