The Pigkeeper's Daughter / Sassy Sue (1975) Review

The Pigkeeper's Daughter / Sassy Sue (1975)

Up until three months ago, I was ignorant of producer Harry Novak, his soft-X filmographry or Something Weird Video, the Seattle company that's preserved these nuggets of drive-in history. Now that I've learned about them, I thank God for all three. Both "The Pigkeeper's Daughter" and "Sassy Sue" are goofy hillbilly humpathons that offer plenty of laughs, though most are of the unintentional kind. "The Pigkeeper's Daughter" has qualities more closely associated with porn: Wretched acting, a mere hint of a plot and even less of a script, and lots of extended sex scenes (which are pretty explicit for a softie). Terry Gibson (in the title role) and Patty Smith (a.k.a. Peggy Church) are about the only people anyone would want to see have sex. There's a surprising amount of male nudity--unfortunately it's in the form of out-of-shape John Keith and skinny Peter James (who has some nasty looking teeth). And what happened to the "actress" playing Gibson's mama? Her breasts look chafed and there's a horrible bruise across her lower back. Was she beaten into taking this role? (This might explain her performance.) By comparison, "Sassy Sue"--the story of a young man, his cow, and the women who try to come between them--is a much more polished effort. The acting is a little better (though it's still bad), the cast is more effective and there's actually some genuine laughs. A definite highpoint in this one is John Tull's tryst with one of the horny babes wanting some backwoods boffing ("It would help if you mooed a little," he snipes). The sex--although simulated and not quite as explicit as that in "Pigkeeper's Daughter" (there's a moment in the final scene that pushes the boundaries of softcore, however)--seems a little more genuine in "Sassy Sue." Both movies are raunchy fun, though "Pigkeeper's Daughter" is raunchier and "Sassy Sue" is more fun. Better than both movies are the trailers for other similarly-themed Harry Novak productions, like "Midnight Plowboy," "Country Cuzzins" and "Tobacco Roody." Fans of large breasts and trash cinema will definitely want to add this to their collection.

42nd Street Pete's Signature Performer Series: John Holmes Collection (2-Disc) Review

42nd Street Pete's Signature Performer Series: John Holmes Collection (2-Disc)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Disc contents and special features include:
Disc One: Dear Pam
Crystal Sync ... Pam Slanders
Jennifer Jordan ... Rose Cumming
C.J. Laing ... Gladys Mygrain
Lorraine Alraune ... Jean Kumkwik (as Beverly Bovy)
Ginger Snaps ... Sandy Phallis
Roberta Findlay ... Miss Klug (as Anna Riva)
John Holmes ... Richard Grandik
Tony Perez "The Hook" ... Barton Fartblow
Eric Edwards ... Harry Phallis
Howard Humper ... Karl - a Waiter
The print is good with both video and sound decent for a movie of that era.
Eric Edwards is a brash horndog businessman that first lays C.J.Laing during a receptionist interview in a restaurant booth, taking her virginity in the process. Then he does his friends wife in the bathtub, and she afterward announces that she has become pregnant from their affair, and then after returning home he does his step-daughter in her bed while she pretends to be dreaming of screwing her boyfriend as she screws Eric.
Next we find Tony Perez getting accosted by an underage girl and soon she is complaining about and then enjoying Tony's oversized meat. Tony then returns to Jennifer Jordan, and deaf to her protests, he shoves his shaft into her as well.
Back at the office Jennifer Jordan arrives and proceeds to go down on C.J. Laing, who afterward falls asleep on the couch. Moments later John Holmes enters and decides to screw her while she's sleeping, though she of course wakes up and makes a weak protest as her recently de-virginized pussy is stuffed with Johns giant stick.
Next Holmes and Crystal Sync get it on, which leads into the end of the movie Orgy scene that includes C.J. Laing deepthroating John Holmes.Disc Two:
This Disc contains 10 Loops with John Holmes and unknown ladies with no sound. Almost half the clips are in color and there is penetration in all the scenes as I recall.

Ken Park (Uncut Uncensored Director's Version - Import) (2002) Review

Ken Park (Uncut Uncensored Director's Version - Import) (2002)
Average Reviews:

This is gorilla film making. Ken Park is an incredibly difficult film to watch - in fact it will be impossible to watch for some. Yet, if you allow yourself to be taken into its world, the film paints a disturbingly accurate portrait of a certain culture which is not at all hard to believe.
We see the majority of characters longing, wanting to make a connection with other humans yet feeling alienated. We see, remarkably, the confusion and disinterest of a major portion of an entire generation that views life as hopeless.
The violence, nudity, graphic (and actual) sex never feel like exploitation or pornography, but they will surely keep a majority of Americans from viewing it. Good thing too, or they'd be asking for Larry Clark's head on a silver platter!
If you try to watch this with an open mind, and can leave your inhabitions and judgment at the door, it will be impossible not to be moved - and powerfully so - by this raw and disturbing film.

Confessions of a Young American Housewife (1974) Review

Confessions of a Young American Housewife (1974)

Oh man, what a big disappointment. An obscure sexploitation classic that was only available in the grey market finally gets the authorized DVD treatment but there's a catch. It's heavily cut. Missing ten minutes of original footage that mainly consists of the envelope pushing sex scenes! Some of this was used as the deleted scenes feature. The version I own is exactly an hour and twenty-two minutes. This official DVD you guys are purchasing is only an hour and twelve minutes! To make matters worse, out of left field during the fifty-eight minute mark, a Retro-Seduction visual bug appears on the far right corner for a couple of seconds, WTF. I just don't get it.
When I saw that the original lurid exploitation cover art was not being used, I should have known better. I read that RSC digitally transferred it from the original 35 mm print and got the green light from Joe Sarno himself, I gave it a shot. Right when the opening title appears on the screen, we see a shameless plug on the bottom of the title that says 2006, Pop Cinema right next to the year 1974. I knew for sure this was going to be an alteration from corporate hell. This is truly as sad case of greed over integrity. Let's look at the disguise of this polished DVD for instance. It costs $26.99 because it's a two disc special edition which the second disc is a soundtrack that has songs from other movies and the music from COAYAH is only ten minutes worth. For special features, we get an eleven minute interview with Joe Sarno. The trailer section for other RSC DVD's is taken advantage for more shameless plugs as each trailer begins with the same RSC ad that we see before COAYAH. To top it off, the movie is not even letterboxed or anamorphic widescreen. There is a nice pictorial liner notes booklet about the making of the film.
Unfortunately, since this is the "official" release of a once lost movie, fans that are just now discovering it can only see it in this format. The grey market dealer that I bought my uncut copy from recently closed down. Even if he was still in business, he would be forced to remove this title anyway. The bottom line, I still wouldn't recommend this DVD at all. That hefty price alone is a rip-off. Matter of fact, this was the first DVD I bought from RSC and I will never purchase anything from them again. The incompetent altering of the film loses it's sexually charged impact and takes away from the original experience. I truly believe that RSC cared more about sales catered to the newer sex drama buying consumers and tailored it to be a safe enough viewing pleasure. This movie was only known to diehard sexploitation fans and RSC should have geared the presentation towards us. Quentin Tarantino even admitted at one of his film festivals that he's never seen this rare gem. The original movie uncut gets five stars and this RSC abomination gets zero!

Extra Weird Sampler (2003) Review

Extra Weird Sampler (2003)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you are a fan of B-Movies, or just want to become a bit more familiar with the genre, this DVD is an absolute steal! I bought this "Something Weird Sampler" because of the low price, but my expectations were not high. I say with a grin "How wrong I was!"
A combination of theater trailers and 5-10 minutes snipets of flicks, The Sampler is an absolute video feast. What makes this budget buy so valuable is that a good portion of these films are unwatchable as full length films, but a sampling of the film or its trailer is priceless.
A few of the films like "Confessions of a Psycho-Cat" and "Swamp Girl" are low budget gems I enjoy on their entirety. The trailers for both these movies are included, and are every bit as awesome as the films themselves (by the way, the man being gored to death by the "Lady Matador Psycho-Cat" is none other than Jake LaMotta!).
And if you are one of those fans of 1960s nudie & cheesecake movies, this trailer compilation has nudity galore in many of these previews, including "Wham-Bam Thank You Spaceman," "Nude on the Moon," and "Kiss Me Quick."
Other truly hep trailers include "Kidnapped Co-Ed," "Two Thousand Maniacs," "Mantis In Lace" (late 1960s classic about a stripper who, under the influence of LSD, becomes a killing machine!), "Johnny Firecloud," "For The Hell Of It," and LOTS MORE!
I truly hope there is a sequel to this Sampler. It would be great to see other trailers and samplings that Something Weird Video does have in their library like "Pot, Parents and Police," "The Psychedelic Priest," and "The Adventures of Lucky Pierre."
