Bikini Royale 2: The Right to Bare All Review

Bikini Royale 2: The Right to Bare All
Average Reviews:

Retromedia always is hit and miss...and this one is a hit. Certainly one of the best by Retromedia and possibly THE best.
I'm no Beverly Lynne fan, but she's cuter here than I've ever seen her, both in how she looks and how she acts. The rest of the cast of female actresses is amazing, as Fred Olen Raye deviated from the usual lineup and went with Brandin Rackley (absolutely, positively scorchingly hot) and Jayden Cole (incredible breasts), along with a fourth-bill blonde newcomer who is just plain smoking. And all of the newbies can act pretty well, too. Awesome!
The plot even is humorous and fairly entertaining in its own right. It's clear which releases that Ray gives more care to and which are throwaways; this one was handled with some tenderness while some others (like the hugely disappointing Voodoo Dollz) were treated like red-haired stepchildren.
Most impressive (besides the production values which I found to be as high as anything that Ray ever has done) are the fantastic sex scenes. There are Retromedia releases with better plots than this one but I've never seen Retromedia top this one in terms of sexiness. The men and women genuinely seem turned on and the sex looks really very realistic. The only qualm that I have--and I say this a lot about these movies--is that there is no real graphic nudity here other than some very, very fleeting accidental glances.

Dunston Checks in (1996) Review

Dunston Checks in (1996)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You might expect "Dunston Checks In" to be a kiddy or cutesy show, and in a way it is, but it can also be a good family movie for anybody who likes comedies. A manager of a 5-star hotel in New York, Mr. Grant (Jason Alexander), has a great job, but he has to watch every step he takes because if he makes one mistake in the eyes of the owner, Mrs. Dubrow (Faye Dunaway), he could lose his high paying job and go from living in a 5-star hotel to something not so nice. Mr. Grant has two kids to raise, but things just might go haywire when an orangutan starts hanging out at the hotel.
But not to fret, not only is the orangutan named Dunston real smart, he can also make simple things hilarious. "Dunston Checks In" isn't a groundbreaking comedy and it's not that original, but it is fun to watch, and it can be funny. I recommend anybody who likes comedies that feature an animal as the main star to at least rent "Dunston Checks In," if not buying it.

A five star hotel turns into a 3-ring circus when an orangutan named Dunston checks in. Jason Alexander and Faye Dunaway star in this hilarious romp about an orangutan who gets loose in the elegant Majestic Hotel on the eve of the social event of the season. Dodging his jewel-thieving owner and the frantic hotel manager, Dunston is befriended by the manager's ten-year old son, Kyle, who is determined to help his new friend escape. Filled with laughter and comic high-jinks, "Dunston Checks In" is "a steady stream of giggles for those who get a kick out of monkey business." (Henry Sheehan, Orange County Register)

13 Erotic Ghosts (2002) Review

13 Erotic Ghosts (2002)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you are interested in a silly DTV movie with lots of naked girls (including Julie Strain), by all means this won't disappoint. However, if you are intrigued by the 3-D idea then forget this one. Not one second was actually shot in stereoscopic 3-D at all. What the makers have TRIED to do is exploit something called The Pulfrich Illusion. This technique can give the impression of depth in a flat movie if the camera and background move in different directions. This has been tried, usually without success, in Super Bowl half times, music videos, cartoons, even sitcoms. They did not understand how to do do it and even with the glasses on there is very little if any depth to be seen, and certainly not anything which should be advertised as being "in 3-D". Shoot out the passanger window of a car moving at 25 MPH and then watch the video with the glasses and you will see more of the pulfrich effect than you will in 13 EROTIC GHOSTS.

The Nuttiest Nutcracker (1999) Review

The Nuttiest Nutcracker (1999)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an adorable little movie. It is an updated version of "The Nutcracker", with assorted colorful characters and a Clara with 'Tude. I especially adored her; she was quite the scene stealer, if a cartoon character could possibly do that. Of course Phyllis Diller as the Fairy was a scream as well. It is a refreshing take on a classic fairy tale, and one that children can relate to. The computer-generated graphics are amazing.
This is fun family fare for the holidays. I recorded it on VHS when it played on Primetime TV, so I'm glad the DVD is out. Even adults will find it entertaining and amusing. (...).

Dance 'Til Dawn (1988) Review

Dance 'Til Dawn (1988)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I first saw "Dance Til Dawn" in 1990 on NBC -- it originally aired in 1988. This 'made-for-TV' film starred a virtual pantheon of 1980s T.V. pop culture icons like Tempest Bledsoe, Tracy Gold, Alyssa Milano, Alan Thicke, and Christina Applegate. Since then, it has become an obscure, much sought-after piece of 80s nostalgia. I've seen it sell for a lot of money (I've lost two auctions on this one, and I bid high - trust me). Future "Friends" star Matthew Perry is a featured cast member in this film as well; was probably his first or second role in Hollywood (besides "Married with Children", and "Just the Ten of Us").
The basic gist of the storyline is this: the most popular guy in school (played by a then seemingly destined-for-fame actor, Brian Bloom) decides he doesn't want to go to the prom with the most popular girl in school (played by a stunningly cute Alyssa Milano), so he asks the not-so-popular girl (Tracey Gold) to the prom [the day of, mind you] because he hears [not true] that she's "easy". The fun starts here, within the first ten minutes.
BUT, the funniest character by far (please believe me!) is the man who plays Tracey Gold's dad...the one and only Kelsey Grammer. Kelsey's character is understandably concerned that his daughter (Tracey) is going to the prom with the most popular guy (Brian Bloom) in school. Let's put it this way: Kelsey's character is a pharmacist at the drugstore. Brian Bloom's character walks in to obtain a necessary 'drugstore' product to enjoy his prom night "safely". Later that night when Brian Bloom's character shows up at the doorstep of Kelsey's house to pick up Tracey??? Uh-oh.
Of course there is another major subplot (Alyssa Milano's character) but I will leave that for you to discover for yourselves. Also note the great music by Richard (Dick) Rudolph, a great 70s and 80s producer (New Edition, his late [great] wife Minnie Riperton for example). Heatwave's "Grooveline" makes an appearance at the dance as well. What an awesome movie folks...especially if you don't mind a little 'star-studded' cheese every now and then.
By the way...I rented this film at a video outlet close to where I live. I couldn't believe my eyes when I found it. All I can say is that if you remember loving this movie when you were younger, and laughing out loud...I can almost guarantee that you will still laugh out loud today. I did - especially at Kelsey Grammer's character...he's the best.
Thanks for reading!
C.H.R.

Girls in Chains Review

Girls in Chains
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
What you see on the cover is not what you get. However, this movie was still entertaining enough. There are girls in a cellar that are used as playthings for two momma's boys who live with their mother(who we don't see till the end),one brother has the mind of a 5 year old. They have mommy issues that are reminiscent of Norman Bates but 1000's of light years away from the Hitchcock horror classic .They use dog leash collar chains when they take the girls out to play.Never do they chain any girls up.The monster on the cover is not in the movie and there are no bars, only a rack on a cellar window with a bunk bed.The house where most of the movie takes place is a neat nice looking home in a secluded part of a suburb. The torture is more mental then anything else.A twisted drama,so no whips and chains.Expect some gratuitous nudity without any S&M or gore(i.e. bloody torture) if your looking at buying "Girls in Chains"based solely on the cover alone.3 stars for some funny scenes.Good for a laugh.

This movie is funnier than most big Hollywood duds. Greg Grunberg, Tom Arnold and Rob Benedict stole every scene they were in. Definitely have to watch more than once to pick up on all of the one-liners. One of my favorites in a long time.

Marley & Me (Three-Disc Bad Dog Edition) (2009) Review

Marley and Me (Three-Disc Bad Dog Edition) (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
'Marley & Me' is a great adaptation of the novel by Josh Grogan. It kept all the emotional elements as well as the fun. Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson had amazing chemistry together in this heartfelt film. It is more than just a dog movie, surpassing hit dog films such as 'Beethoven,' '101 Dalmations,' and 'Homeward Bound.' This film concentrates on the family and how a dog affected the lives of this family for both good and bad. It's a good representation of a young couple and how they evolve as they have children and move on in life. Along with it, is shows the life cycle of a dog, which is something that rarely gets shown honestly in films. It shows the good, the bad, and the painfully tragic elements of having a dog. The end of the film is very true to the book and I'm glad because it is probably the most important part of the story and it's nice to see it portrayed honestly for fans of the book.
Overall, I think viewers will enjoy this film. Jennifer Aniston is sweet as the supportive wife and Owen Wilson shows how he's much more than playing screwball characters and can be tender and emotional as well.

The Sasquatch Gang (2006) Review

The Sasquatch Gang (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This movie was recommended to me by a friend, who said it was one of the funniest films he's ever seen. I'm always a little sceptical when people tell me this, as I've been tricked into watching really lame movies many times. This one, however, definitely lived up to my friend's description. I was expecting something similar to Napoleon Dynamite when I put it on, which is essentially what I got. But I believe this film is even better.
The actors all have brilliant comedic delivery (especially Justin Long as the character Zerk and his friend Shirts) and the plot is interesting and unique (something unusual for a comedy). It depicts "nerds" and "losers" in a funny and sort of affectionate way. It's really refreshing to see something like this, when all other comedies out there are either terrible teen flicks or the dreaded "romantic comedy" genre.
I've already watched it four times since I bought it, which, for me, is always a sign of a good movie. I think this would appeal to just about anyone, kids and adults alike. Definitely check it out!

Worst Week: The Complete Series (2008) Review

Worst Week: The Complete Series (2008)
Average Reviews:

This show was an example of, from week to week, a show that would make me cry from laughing so hard. One of those shows that you would snort, and laugh because it made you snort. Even when you absolutely knew what was coming next, to see it happen was hilarious. But then, the season ended, new season began and it was nowhere to be found on television. Whoever made the decision to cancel this show, whether it was up against a bigger hit (I don't even know what was on other channels in the same time slot), or what, ought NOT to be working in TV programming. I will have to get by watching this one season, over and over. It's that good, but I sure would have liked to have more than one season to enjoy.

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (2009) Review

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I read the book and thought it was funny. I'm not a Tucker Max fanboy or hater, but this movie was painful to sit through. It even made the book lose some of the humor in it because it felt so fake. If your a fan of the straight to DVD American Pie films then you may find a few laughs in this, otherwise save your time and money. The characters in this aren't interesting, the acting is bad, the plot is unoriginal and meaningless, and there just aren't many laughs. Every once in a while it will make you smirk but by the end of the movie you will have forgotten why. This is one film to avoid...

Extra Weird Sampler (2003) Review

Extra Weird Sampler (2003)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you are a fan of B-Movies, or just want to become a bit more familiar with the genre, this DVD is an absolute steal! I bought this "Something Weird Sampler" because of the low price, but my expectations were not high. I say with a grin "How wrong I was!"
A combination of theater trailers and 5-10 minutes snipets of flicks, The Sampler is an absolute video feast. What makes this budget buy so valuable is that a good portion of these films are unwatchable as full length films, but a sampling of the film or its trailer is priceless.
A few of the films like "Confessions of a Psycho-Cat" and "Swamp Girl" are low budget gems I enjoy on their entirety. The trailers for both these movies are included, and are every bit as awesome as the films themselves (by the way, the man being gored to death by the "Lady Matador Psycho-Cat" is none other than Jake LaMotta!).
And if you are one of those fans of 1960s nudie & cheesecake movies, this trailer compilation has nudity galore in many of these previews, including "Wham-Bam Thank You Spaceman," "Nude on the Moon," and "Kiss Me Quick."
Other truly hep trailers include "Kidnapped Co-Ed," "Two Thousand Maniacs," "Mantis In Lace" (late 1960s classic about a stripper who, under the influence of LSD, becomes a killing machine!), "Johnny Firecloud," "For The Hell Of It," and LOTS MORE!
I truly hope there is a sequel to this Sampler. It would be great to see other trailers and samplings that Something Weird Video does have in their library like "Pot, Parents and Police," "The Psychedelic Priest," and "The Adventures of Lucky Pierre."
